How can architecture, the city, and space become objects of quantitative analysis? This course is designed to introduce the methodologies of definition, description, and measurement required for the objective analysis of space. It seeks to help students understand how the characteristics and performance of space can be rendered into forms that are open to specification and interpretation in relation to design and planning agendas. The first part of the course consists of lectures that establish the basic concepts of spatial analysis and the central questions of the field. The remainder of the course is conducted in a seminar format, examining both classical approaches to architectural and urban spatial analysis and recent AI-enabled methodologies of quantitative spatial analysis through selected research cases. Students are also expected to complete an individual research project related to the course by the end of the semester.
